When it was time for Officer 502 Gary Roy to say his thank you's at his retirement dinner August 27, 2019, he looked first into his wife Lee Ann's eyes and spoke directly to her and their three children, Katie, Austin and Eli. He said he looked forward to being able to be home for birthdays and Christmas now, and he thanked them for allowing him to be who he is and for standing with him through his years in law enforcement. To be the one who is known to always keep everyone laughing, he took his first moments to share his deep gratitude for having met his life goals. He offered advice to young officers, thanked his fellow officers and city staff. And he thanked God for watching over him through his years of service to the Columbia City Police Department. New Patrol Car 2019-08-28 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler. Spotted on the square this morning - the first of four new Adair County Sheriff's Department vehicles. Current vehicles in use were in terrible condition and constantly needing repair work. Sheriff Josh Brockman was left using his personal truck for work. This fiscal year, the department was able to secure three cruisers and a truck with funds from the fiscal court and a federal USDA grant. Long detour planned for KY 100 in Monroe Co. 2019-08-28 - Monroe Co., KY - Photo courtesy KTC. A project to repair a slide on KY 100 in Monroe County will close the road near mile point 24 about a mile south of KY 243. The closure is expected to begin on Sept. 9 and the roadway is expected to reopen on Sept. 23. The detour will utilize KY 163, KY 90 and KY 3115. Scenic Kentucky: Irvington Coaling Tower 2019-08-27 - Breckinridge Co., KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler. Just like most of Kentucky's 120 counties, the history of Breckinridge is captivating. The county was named for John Breckinridge (1760-1806), a Kentucky Attorney General, state legislator, United States Senator, and United States Attorney General. Traveling through Kentucky on a rain-soaked day with phenomenal cloud coverage, we found ourselves in Irvington, a city in Breckinridge County. The train tracks were stunning and make me forever sad that Adair was never able to obtain the type of transport. Near the CSX tracks sits a pair of old grain silos.
