Fall baseball starts at Joe Johnson Park

Each season brings a different sport. This week, youngsters began fall baseball at Joe Johnson Little League Park. Jaxson Warren stood at the plate, ready to bat. Jaxson is the eight-year-old son of Michael Warren of Columbia. With the fall sun setting earlier, spectator shadows grew long on the field.

Bugs and boys

Very few things spark the curiosity of an eight-year-old boy like that of an enormous praying mantis. Roughly five inches long, the gentle leaf-like creature was found crawling across freshly mowed grass. And according to this fearless child, moving mantis feet really tickle the hands.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Soondubu Jjigae

Soondubu jjigae, a spicy, hearty stew with tofu, mushrooms, and other vegetables. It was served boiling in a hot stone bowl, with teamed rice on the side to help cool things down. From Sarang, a Korean restaurant located on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Bardstown Road.
