Cyndi Humble stopped by The Big Dawg today to promote a bean soup luncheon today from 11amET to 2pmET at the Taylor County Extension Office, 1143 S Columbia Ave, Campbellsville, KY.

Proceeds go to the local scholarship program for Campbellsvillle and Taylor County Students.

Mock Trial team wins in regional competition

At Regionals in the Mock Trial competition in Louisville, sophomore Reagan Read was selected as Outstanding Attorney and junior Emily Watkins was selected as Outstanding Witness by the judges. Team members include Abby Ford, Abigayle Lee, Alexia Tikkanen, Allie Hancock, Emily Watkins, Gillian Hale, Hannah Hansford, Hannah Phillips, Morgan Melton, RaiLee Hagan, Reagan Read, and Ya'Kerryeun Davis. Mrs. Kathryn Goode, English Teacher at TCHS, is the Mock Trial Coach.

Adair County Public Library has historic recipes

Recipes were provided of foods offered at the Historic Kentucky Kitchen event, one of the recent Saturday Sessions at the Adair County Genealogical Society, Adair County Public Library. Lee Ann Jessie and Ernie Bennett, at left, collated copies to hand out. They also can help Library patrons find the recipe books that were referenced in the meeting.

Yellowhammer one room school building

The Yellowhammer School building, now across Yellow Hammer Road from Pierces Chapel Baptist Church, is in a different location from where it sat in Dave Rosenbaum's memory as a young student there.

Birds of Kentucky: Downy Woodpecker

All About Birds has this to say about the downy woodpecker: "Downy Woodpeckers hitch around tree limbs and trunks or drop into tall weeds to feed on galls, moving more acrobatically than larger woodpeckers. Their rising-and-falling flight style is distinctive of many woodpeckers. In spring and summer, Downy Woodpeckers make lots of noise, both with their shrill whinnying call and by drumming on trees."

Letter: we need a hunting season on vultures

In response to the question: Is there a hunting season on vultures? Steve Myers writes, "I wish there was a season on those menaces. My farm is in Coburg. I constantly have problems. These birds will attack livestock and humans as well, had one chase me. They are federally protected. Photo taken of a roost at Ramp 1, September 29, 2019, 685 Corbins Bend Road, Adair County, KY." - Steve
