Academic Recognition Month in Columbia

The whole month of March has been designated Academic Recognition Month in Columbia by Mayor Pam Hoots to recognize students in the Adair County School System for their academic achievements. Adair County Elementary School, the Adair County Middle School, and Adair County High School Academic Teams have shown excellence. All students were presented with individual certificates of achievement. A certificate was also presented in memory of freshman Academic Team member Elizabeth Smith who passed away last week. The City of Columbia will be planting a rose bush in her honor in the rose garden at the Trabue Russell House.

Boy Scout Troop 185 leads Pledge at City Council meeting

The Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag was led by a Boy Scout Troop Number 185 at the March 2020 meeting of the Columbia City Council. Pictured in back are: Assistant Scoutmaster Marc Evans, Zack Bullock, Gave Coleman and Scoutmaster Troy Elmore. In front are Isaac Rexroat, Mayor Pam Hoots, and Jayden Campbell. Each month guests from Columbia and Adair County are invited to be leaders at the meeting.

Columbia United Methodist Church LINK small group got together for dinner and fellowship at Black Stallion Steakhouse Wednesday evening. On the left are: Dr. Pam Stephens, Jamie and John Shelley, Bryan and Angela Cook, Teresa and Monte Fugate and George Kolbenschlag. On the right are: Jennifer Thompson, Linda Waggener, Julie and Ben Martin, Gary and Diane Rose and Travis and Hailey Starnes. Everyone is invited to attend the group meetings each Wednesday evening at 6pmCT at the Church, 202 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.

Hannah Kotter, a 5th grade student at Adair County Elementary School, set the school's record (maybe even school district) on March 4, 2020, with a total of 1,000 Accelerated Reading points thus far for the school year. Great job Hannah!

Call 270-378-CALY to help police fight illegal drug sales

Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross introduced a new drug Tip Line, 270-378-CALY (2259), funded in memory of Cally McFall by her mother Stacey Hatcher Wilson. Stacey and her sister Julie were present for the introduction. Cross said that she reached out to the CPD with the idea for a special drug tip line and they've been able to secure it. Officer Evan Burton will man the line. Clicking on Cally's name (in bold above) takes you to more details and also gives information for families who may be in need of Casey's Law.
