Weekly update on Rep. John Bam Carney's recovery

2020-03-27 - Cranmer Dining Center, Lindsey Wilson College - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com archives.

Mark Carney shares his weekly update on the long road to recovery of his brother Bam:

"Weekly update on Bam. Shortly after last weeks update we learned of the visitation restrictions that would be imposed at Norton’s Hospital. I left Bam's bedside around 9:30pm last Tuesday night. Mom and my sister Amy had to leave the hospital around 10:30am the next morning. We have not been able to see Bam in person since then.

"We are able to call and talk to the nurses and can also talk to Bam. We also get to FaceTime him occasionally. He did get another drain removed today, also had speech therapy and physical therapy today.

"In physical therapy he was able to sit for one minute on his own!!! White blood count has been great for a week now and was 9.75 this morning.

"Of course you know we hate not being able to be there with Bam but we understand all the decisions that have been made.

"We are just so thankful that God is always with Bam and in the long run that is better than any of us being there. So tonight as we all continue to go through some tough times let’s continue to thank God for always being there for us all!"

Seems like just yesterday this was all cleaned out

2020-03-27 - Hwy 206 bridge leaving Columbia, KY - Photo by Mitzi Bault.
It took months for the state to come last time this happened but they did a beautiful job of clearing all this last year and with all the rains, here we are again. The pile up blocks kayakers and is dangerous for the bridge. Hope they can come back soon! - MB

Daffodil Watch 2020: a field full of them!

2020-03-26 - Wayne County, KY - Photo by Mary Ellis.
Photographer Mary Ellis sent this field bouquet from her trip to work in Wayne County, KY. She writes, "You've had me on a daffodil watch… noticed these just South of Monticello on West KY 90 a few days ago." She said it didn't need to be printed, but it's just too fine a field of the delightful flowers not to share. - LW

Signs of Spring: White henbit

2020-03-26 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen.
There's not an official entry in Wikipedia for this variant of Lamium amplexicaule, which is normally purple, but the small white flowers are showing up in several local yards this spring. (There is a white dead-nettle, but it appears to be a wholly different species, local to Europe and Asia).
