Adair Food Pantry open each Tuesday morning

2020-04-24 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Adair Food Pantry is open each Tuesday morning at 203 South Monroe Street, behind Columbia United Methodist Church, Columbia, KY between 9am-12pmCT and they have plenty of food. The Food Pantry caters to senior citizens, disabled Veterans, and hungry children. They are required to keep a few records but no one is turned away. As a rule, they say, if you're hungry they make sure you get food and they never run out. This is a view of the building from West Fortune Street, across the parking lot behind Columbia UMC.

Birds of Kentucky: Red Winged Blackbird

2020-04-23 - Jefferson Co., KY - Photo by Pen.
According to the All About Birds entry for Agelaius phoeniceus, "Male Red-winged Blackbirds do everything they can to get noticed, sitting on high perches and belting out their conk-la-ree! song all day long. Females stay lower, skulking through vegetation for food and quietly weaving together their remarkable nests."

Epicurean Kentuckian: when it has to taste homemade

2020-04-23 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
When you long for the taste of a real homemade cheeseburger with all the fixings, this one really fits the bill. The cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mustard (my preference) and dill pickles with a side of seasoned crinkle cut french fries is from Patty's Liberty Road General Store & Diner. She's open for Take-Out and Delivery Orders -- call ahead to 270-380-1039 and it will be ready when you get there. If you need it just ask and Patty will even bring it out to your car - she remembers her job managing curb service at the Circle R back in the day. Whenever you're hungry, scroll to the What's Cooking feature on ColumbiaMagazine.com for details and directions - and on cell phones you can just tap on the phone number and it dials for you.

2020-04-23 - Columbia - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Michael Dial of Columbia was enjoying some front porch time with his "Amazing" grandchildren Tuesday morning. Grandson, Amillion, is two, and granddaughter, Amiracle, said she was three, but she is really four - as of her birthday just two weeks ago. We've had some brilliant spring days for walking recently.

Postcards from LWC: George and Vonnie Kolbenschlag

2020-04-22 - Adair Co., KY - Photo courtesy George Kolbenschlag.
Dakota Smith writes, "Hello, Adair County. We are continuing our postcards from Lindsey with George and Vonnie Kolbenschlag. They have been host parents for 30 years! Their favorite thing about being host parents is that they learn more than they teach and the lifelong friendships! They have hosted at least one international student every year since the program began. In fact, they had several before there was a formal program!"
