Genealogy president at work before the fire
2020-08-28 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Mayor Pamela Hoots. Adair County Genealogy President Mike Watson was caught in a moment of laboring over precious documents and keepsakes that were left in the historic Hurt/Foust home for preservation. He wrote in the story linked to this picture, "Was the house salvageable? Yes, it was, the main or front part of the house was surprisingly stable. The front porch and the glassed-in upper porch were in sad shape, but could have been replaced during the renovation. The porch's instability made the whole structure look to be extremely bad, but it belied what lay behind it..." The fire that burned the home to the ground this week ended the possibility of further work on the history inside it.

This had been severally damaged and was the likely part of the home that might not have been salvageable. The two-story front of the home, at left, was where work was being done inside with hopes of restoration.
