Milkweed bugs 2020-06-20 - Jefferson Co., KY - Photo by Pen. I seem to remember that in third grade at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary, Mrs. Keen taught everyone about the importance of milkweed plants to monarch butterflies, and how to spot the eggs and caterpillars on milkweed plants. On a recent hike through the Grand Allee at Beckley Creek Park, there weren't many monarchs to be seen yet on the this year's crop of milkweed plants, but there was a lot of colorful insect activity on a smaller scale.
