Columbia City Council holds called meeting 2020-08-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by CPD Chief Jason Cross. The Columbia City Council held its first all-in-person meeting with all members present since the March 2020 shutdown for the Coronavirus. At first, meetings were held over the Internet via Zoom, under the guidance of Adair school district Technology Director and Constable Jason Rector. Since that time some of the Council members have attended via Zoom and some have attended in person as spacial distancing would allow. From left today, clockwise around the table, are: Mayor Pamela Hoots, Council members Craig Dean, Sharon Payne, Linda Waggener, Dr. Ronald Rogers, June Parson and Mark Harris. Looking across the street from Farmers Market Wednesday activity, the view is of business at the Adair County Judicial Center on the corner or Merchant and Campbellsville Streets. Both activities - judicial and market - were once on the Columbia Public Square, and both were moved for greater amounts of space to this corner a block off the Square. The Farmers Market traffic is able to utilize the Judicial Center parking spaces on Saturdays. On Wednesdays, with fewer vendor tents, there is plenty of space in the City of Columbia parking lot, allowing for all the shoppers on its side of Merchant street. By Billy Joe Fudge The Cauliflower Mushroom is a common sight for those of us who go traipsing around the timberlands of the Great Wooded South. These particular ones are dining on the decaying roots of this stump left from a harvest some 15 years ago. Speaking of dining, according to all the sources with which I've consulted, Cauliflower Mushrooms are safe to eat and are very tasty. Since I'm not an expert on mushrooms, I highly recommend you do your own research prior to slathering (thanks Jim) on the butter or other condiments. Just a note, even though this baby Hickory is completely surrounded, I'm sure it is not being negatively impacted by the mushroom's embrace. Fire Department working for Children's Crusade 2020-08-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Donald Hare. The Adair County Fire Department kicked off the 2020 campaign for the WHAS Crusade for Children Sunday, day one of three days of fundraising. Pictured around town are: Robbie Shelton, Tyler Solum, Chris Bragg and Robert Montgomery. They'll be out around town this Friday, August 7, 2020, from 3pmCT to 8pmCT and Saturday, August 8, 2020, from 8amCT to 4pmCT. The Columbia-Adair County Fire Department has been participating in the crusade since 1963 and has raised over 1.3 million dollars for special needs in Adair County. The money raised in Columbia-Adair County comes back to our county 100% dollar for dollar in the form of grants. Grants are made to non-profit agencies, schools, and hospitals that help children up to the age of 18.
