Scenic Kentucky: Shortcut

It seemed like a good idea to take this long winding road shortcut off Hwy 127 between Russell Springs and Liberty Thursday. However, when granddaughter Hailey looked at it she pronounced it looked like it would make a long time.

Spotted along the Grand Allee at Beckley Creek Park. The viceroy was named the state butterfly of Kentucky in 1990 (Wikipedia).

Looking for more black gold

Oil well drilling is the view from the Hunter Place section of the Pampered Angus Ranch. Lime is rolling and possibilities abound in Greater Bliss/Flatwoods area near downtown New Columbia. The drilling is in progress just over the Cumberland Parkway, south of the Ranch and west of the most recent strike across Hwy. 61. Miss Vicky says she will "try to report when the black gold starts to roll out. If it does."

Friendly kitten in need of a home

Kitten is searching for its forever home. Pam Shearer writes: "We found a small kitten on the side of the road on Pelham Branch Rd., Adair County. We took her to the Green River Animal Shelter and she can be visited and adopted from there."

It's August. It's Dog Days. It's high summer in Kentucky and it's yard sale time. This is the weekend of the 127 Yard Sale and that event influences sales in all surrounding counties.
