Welcoming the new owners of Highway 206 Food Mart

Liberty Road General Store & Diner is now Highway 206 Food Mart. Patty Edwards is retiring, and has sold the business to Sam and Paul Patel. The new owners are official as of Monday, May 24, 2021.

Birds of Kentucky: Eastern Kingbird

All About Birds has this to say about Tyrannus tyrannus: "With dark gray upperparts and a neat white tip to the tail, the Eastern Kingbird looks like it’s wearing a business suit. And this big-headed, broad-shouldered bird does mean business—just watch one harassing crows, Red-tailed Hawks, Great Blue Herons, and other birds that pass over its territory."

EMS and Dive Team on the scene

As off-duty firefighter Cody Wood moved his boat into position to assist a swimmer in distress on Monday, he notified the 911 center via portable radio and requested the fire department special operations dive team and emergency medical services.

Remember to wear your life jacket

Chief Chris Taylor says "As we enter the summer season and this week kicks off national safe boating week, we want to remind you to be safe on the water this season. The statistics speak for themselves. 79% of boat deaths are due to drowning, 86% of victims are NOT wearing a life jacket and 2/3 of drowning victims are 'good' swimmers.

Wearing a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket is the simplest life-saving strategy for being in or around the water."

Hassan Curtis takes 2nd Place in Welding Competition

The 2021 Central Kentucky Welding Classic competition was held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Franklin County Career & Technology Center in Frankfort, Kentucky. Hassan Curtis placed Second in the competition, which earned him a one-half (1/2) tuition paid scholarship to Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, Florida.

Hassan was a senior welding student under the direction and teaching of Welding Instructor Barney Taylor at the Lake Cumberland Area Technology Center Satellite Campus, and is now 2021 Graduate of Adair County High School.

Hassan Curtis is the son of Anita Kassem and Bruce Curtis of Columbia, Kentucky.
