Reserve Champion Hams

In the 4-H youth division of the local 4-H Country Ham Judging Contest, Myla Curry's ham was selected as Reserve Grand Champion with a score of 87 (at left). In the Cloverbud Division, Abby Smith's ham was selected as Reserve Champion with a score of a total score of 84 (at right).

Blue Ribbon Champion Hams

In the 4-H youth division of the local 4-H Country Ham Judging Contest, Maddie Wethington's ham was selected as Grand Champion with a total score of 88 (left). In the Cloverbud Division, Michael Hargis' ham was selected as Grand Champion with a total score of 87 (right).

Adair County 4-H Country Ham contest

This year the Adair County 4-H held a local 4-H Country Ham Judging Contest. Dr. Gregg Rentfrow, Extension Professor- Meat Science judged all the 4-H and Cloverbud hams. Hams are scored in five areas: Conformation, Workmanship, Meatiness, Color, and Aroma.

City receives donations for CPD drug vehicle

The City of Columbia was recently awarded a grant that assisted with the purchase of a drug vehicle and trailer to be utilized for drug education. The vehicle will be used in education in the school system, activities in the community, and to assist with drug awareness. This week three donations were presented to the police department for assistance with outfitting the vehicle - $5,000 from the local Adair County High School youth service center, $300 from local Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, and Display from the local Healthy Kids Program at the schools.

Country Store at Breeding is missing

The Breeding Country Store is gone. It used to be a landmark on the trip south from Columbia to Burkesville just before getting to the landmark signs where three counties switch back and forth - Adair, Metcalfe and Cumberland. Word in the neighborhood is that Hayward and Connie Adams sold the property to Dollar General corporation for one of their new country sites.
