A special birthday dinner was enjoyed over the weekend - Farmers Market lamb burgers and a unique slaw. Ground lamb burgers were served between sturdy buns spread with lemon-caper aioli (capers, mayonnaise, olive oil, lemon zest and lemon juice, mustard and garlic), under a topper of slaw. Heavy rains possible Tuesday and Thursday 2022-02-20 - Central Kentucky - Photo National Weather Service. Adair Co. Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner sends an update on expected heavy rainfall this week. The National Weather Service in Louisville is predicting heavy rain on Tuesday, with 3+ inches possible in south-central Kentucky. The threat for true flash flooding is low, but small stream flooding and eventually minor river flooding are likely. All river basins are under a threat of at least minor flooding by mid to late week. Another wave Wednesday night through late Thursday could drop 1-2 inches of rain, leading to more flooding. Kentucky Color: It's Everywhere, It's Everywhere 2022-02-20 - Great Wooded South - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. By Billy Joe Fudge This carpet of green moss reminds me of the line, "he's everywhere, he's everywhere" in the Ray Steven's classic, "Santa Clause is watching you". The most prolific moss in the Great Wooded South is Delicate Fern Moss. It covers the forest floor, tree trunks and rock outcroppings 12 months out of the year but is so much more obvious during winter. The icicles are cold, hard proof that bitter cold temperatures do not bother it at all. It is a highly preferred nesting material for many area songbirds. Just last week I saw a couple of House Wrens checking out Delicate Fern Moss covered rock ledges. Since it is a little early for them to be nesting, I figured they were looking for lethargic, winter insects. Speaking of seasons, I have a tip for you if you find yourself needing a quick and natural cool down in the heat and humidity of summer. A relaxing seat and recline against the moss covered, North side of a large, thin-barked tree is a Godsend and maybe even a life saver.
