LWC Volleyball runs winning streak to 9, beats Cumberland 3-0 By Chris Wells For the fourth time this season, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team hit over .400 in a three-game sweep of visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) tonight at Biggers Sports Center. The No. 4 Blue Raiders (17-2, 7-0 in the Mid-South Conference) hit .420 as a team while committing just five errors in the match. The win is the 68th consecutive victory at home for the Blue Raiders -- a streak that dates back to 2013. While the offense produced an efficient evening, the Lindsey Wilson defense was just as stout. Lindsey Wilson recorded nine team blocks and limited the Phoenix (4-8, 2-3) to a .096 attacking percentage. Lindsey Wilson used a balanced attack in the opening set en route to a 25-13 win. Elly Burke, Klara Mikelova each produced four kills while Sarah Cruz added three as the Blue Raiders hit .393 as a team with just two attacking errors. Burke and Mikelova each finished the match with a .467 attack while Cruz hit .435 in the win. The Blue Raiders were equally balanced on defense. Cruz, Autumn Proctor, Grace Blomstedt and Alexis Smith each had an assisted block while Proctor, Burke and Lilo Larzelere all recorded multiple digs in the set. Cumberland manage to hit just .107 in the set, including making six attack errors. Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 7-2 lead and led 15-5 following a six-point spurt. The Blue Raiders extended the lead to as many as 12 on four different occasions on their way to the win. A nearly error-free second set helped propel the Blue Raiders to the 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win. Lindsey Wilson committed just one hitting error in the set, to post a .565 attack in the frame. Proctor -- who finished with 30 assists in the match -- spread the ball around in the set as five different Blue Raiders recorded at least two kills in the set. Proctor added 10 digs in the match for her second double-double of the season. While the Lindsey Wilson offense flourished, the Blue Raider defense limited the Phoenix to a .069 attack in the set. Blomstedt added a pair of assisted blocks in the set as four Blue Raiders added a block in the frame. Lindsey Wilson scored seven of the first eight points in the set and built a 16-point lead before ultimately taking the set 25-12. Cruz added six of her match-high 13 kills in the third set to lead the Blue Raiders to the 25-14 set win and the sweep in the match. After a close opening to the third -- where Lindsey Wilson led 6-5 -- the Blue Raiders scored the next six points to take control. The Phoenix managed to cut the deficit to four points (16-12) before the Blue Raiders closed the set with a 9-2 run to secure its sixth straight sweep.
