Update: Local Cost of Crappie USA national tournament coming Capturing more of the the potential business Adair County's Green River Lake, private lakes, and streams is expected to get a tremendous kickstart and lasting impact from the national tournament, and yes, there are attendant costs. About: Adair Tourism confirms Crappie USA national coming in 2020!!! By Ed Waggener In the excitement of the announcement that the 2020 National Crappie USA Tournament will be in Columbia, KY, at Holmes Bend, the announcement was made without noting the cost to Columbia/Adair County Tourism Commission, and some have asked from more details on that subject. They are entitled to that, as well a full accounting of commission expenditure's when "Monday morning quarterbacking" - which should always be done - is conducted after what we hope will be a very successful tourism event October 21-24, 2020, when hundreds of fishing teams are expected to be here because of the national tournament. Executive Director Sue Stivers was open about the cost, in the meeting on July 17, 2018, stating that the C/AC Tourism Commission is budgeting approximately $75,000 to promote the fishing extravanagaza, adding that that is approximately the same amount the commission currently has in its account. Beyond that, she did not go into details about the $75,000 costs. We'd anticipated that that information would be readily available later. Promoters of the event, and fishing enthusiasts believe that the publicity, the increased hotel, restaurant, and supplies sales - figures of an increase of $500-$1 million in retail sales surge for the local area, are being heard. We'll have additional details on the breakdown of the expenditure in future stories, and welcome comments. EW This story was posted on 2018-07-19 05:56:25
