Adair County's economy set to receive a surge of income from fishing tournament and related business during the week around the National USA Crappie Tournament October 21-24, 2020. Click on headline for all of beginning story. By Linda & Ed Waggener It's big. And it's now official - Green River Lake and Holmes Bend Boat Dock, will be the site of the 2020 National USA Crappie Tournament. The announcement came July 17, 2018 at the Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission board meeting. Excitement will build leading up to the national event, starting next spring with the Crappie Tournament Super Event April 19-20, 2019 at Holmes Bend. Then the National USA Crappie Tournament will be held October 21-24, 2020 bringing hundreds of fishermen and family members to Adair County for a week. The economy will get a surge of income from the tournament and the related business during that week. The regular Crappie tournament is an annual April event but this year it had to be rescheduled to June because of the weeks of heavy spring rains that resulted in flooding. In the two-day tournament last month, a record number of 78 teams fished the popular event, 22 in the Pro Division and 56 in the Amateur Division. Present to give the news were Sue Stivers, board chair; David Louis Butler, vice chair; Pam Hancock, treasurer; and Marla Shelley. Board members not present: Amy Mitchum, Danny Reeves and Henrietta Scott. The Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission meets monthly at the Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) Building, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.
