Elizabeth (Betty) Benson, Russell County, KY (1931-2017)

She was a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Floren & Tina Perkins McBeath, and the widow of first Doug Emerson and later Carl Benson. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded family.

Elizabeth "Betty" Benson, 86, of Russell Springs, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, KY.

Funeral service for Elizabeth "Betty" Benson will be 10amCT, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Don Emerson and Bro. Greg Wade officiating. Visitation 5pm-8pmCT Tuesday, April 11, 2017; and after 8amCT, Wednesday. Interment in the Union Cemetery. Pallbearers: Matt Emerson, Jeremy Emerson, Daniel Emerson, Aaron Poynter, Brian Davis, and Leon Wooldridge, Shawn Pierce Special Music will be byYvonne Emerson.



Elizabeth (Betty) Benson, Russell County, KY (1931-2017)


She was born January 6, 1931 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Floren & Tina Perkins McBeath. She died Sunday, April 9, 2017, in Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, at the age of 86 years, three months, and three days.

She was a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Doug Emerson (1994) and later married Carl Benson who died in 2011. She was also preceded by a grandson, Erik Emerson; three sisters, Mary Emerson, Eva Wooldridge, Nellie Lawson; and two brothers, Kenneth McBeath and Sonny McBeath.

Survivors:
  • Three children: Larry (Pam) Emerson, Somerset, KY; Don (Yvonne) Emerson, Russell Springs, KY; and Sherry (Greg) Redmon, Russell Springs, KY

  • T step sons: Carl (Andrea) Benson, Ohio; Gary (Debbie) Benson, Ohio; and Mike (Sharon) Benson, Russell Springs

  • Fove grandchildren

  • Several step grandchildren

  • One brother: Eldon (Dena) McBeath, Russell Springs, KY
