LWC Men's Basketball faces Cumberlands in MSC Quarterfinals By Matthew Wurzburger COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team begins its hunt for the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship when it plays No. 21-ranked Cumberlands (KY) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 3pmCT at the Frankfort Convention Center, 405 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY. The Blue Raiders received the fifth seed in the tournament after going 7-7 in the conference and 20-10 overall. The Patriots (22-7, 8-6 MSC) are the No. 4 seed. Lindsey Wilson is a three-time winner of the conference tournament, last doing so in the 2012-13 season. The Blue Raiders also won the MSC tournament in back-to-back seasons in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Blue Raiders picked up two home victories in the final week of the regular season - 71-55 over Shawnee State (Ohio) and 88-84 in overtime against No. 6-ranked Georgetown (KY). Georgetown led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but Lindsey Wilson rallied to force overtime in its season finale on Saturday. Once in the extra period, the Blue Raiders scored seven of the game's final eight points to secure the upset victory. Bryan Wallace and Nic Brown both turned in double-doubles on Saturday. Wallace matched a season high with 21 points and assisted on a career-high 10 baskets. Brown scored a career-best 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The double-double was the second of the week for Brown, who posted a 14-point, 15-rebound game with six blocks against Shawnee State. For his efforts, the Mandeville, Jamaica native received his first-career MSC Player of the Week award on Monday. Cumberlands concluded its regular season on a two-game losing streak. The Patriots fell 69-56 to Cumberland (Tenn.) at home on Feb. 18 before dropping a one-point game to then-No. 14-ranked Pikeville (Ky.) on Saturday. The Patriots out-shot Pikeville by nearly 13 percentage points in the 67-66 loss but allowed 15 offensive rebounds to the Bears. Lindsey Wilson split the regular-season series with the Patriots with the home team winning both games. The Blue Raiders won 73-66 on Jan. 14 behind a 59.1 percent shooting performance. Cumberlands then won 65-55 in a defensive struggle on February 16. The Blue Raiders are 18-51 against the Patriots, all-time. Cumberlands has ended Lindsey Wilson's MSC Tournament run in each of the past two seasons. The two teams met in the semifinals last season, and the Blue Raiders led 55-53 with only four second remaining. Temaje Singleton then hit a three pointer for Cumberlands, giving them the 56-55 victory. Georgetown won last year's MSC Tournament after defeating Cumberlands 79-69 in the championship game.
