News from Lindsey Wilson College
KINGSPORT, TN - The Lindsey Wilson women's swim team sits in second place while the Blue Raider men are third following the second day of competition at the Mid-South Conference Swimming Championships held at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Friday.
Lindsey Wilson's women's team has accumulated 265 team points and trails only Cumberlands (KY) at 330 points. The men's team has collected 233 points after two days of competition and remains behind Cumberlands at 311 points and Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) at 364.
The Blue Raider relay teams once again put forth strong efforts as Lindsey Wilson won three of the four races on the day.
The women's team swept both relay events during the second day, one at the start of the evening's finals and one at the end.
Bailey Seitz, Ines Khiyara, Jessica Macdonald and Ronni Borders combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of one minute and 39.32 seconds, narrowly edging out second-place Cumberlands (Ky.) at 1:39.94 to claim First Team All-MSC honors.
The quartet was back at it again in the final event of the day, winning the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.14, over four seconds faster than the next team. The Blue Raiders women's team has won three of the four relay events at the championships with the final event coming on Saturday.
Lindsey Wilson's men's team also opened the second finals session with a win in the 200 free relay. Jose Prado de Lima, Clemens Paetzold, Zachary Patzer and Iker Larzabal touched the wall in 1:25.84 to claim First Team All-MSC honors and 32 team points. The time was good enough for a new school record, surpassing the old mark of 1:26.40 set back in 2015.
Paetzold, Jonas Mueller, Prado de Lima and Larzabal nearly made it a clean sweep for the Blue Raiders in relay events on the day, but came up less than a second behind the winning time in the 400 medley relay, taking second place and Second Team all-conference honors.
Macdonald collected her first individual all-conference honor after earning First Team accolades for winning the 200-yard individual medley. After posting the quickest qualifying time, her time of 1:54.49 in the finals was the fastest by nearly two seconds. Borders added her second First Team all-conference award of the championships after winning the 100-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:05.90, nearly three and a half seconds faster than second place.
Paetzold added his name to the individual First Team all-conference honorees after winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.15 seconds, edging out the second-place time of 53.00 seconds.
A number of Blue Raiders just missed out on earning all-conference honors with third-place finishes.
Khiyara took third in the 400-yard IM with her time of 4:45.81. Larzabal took third in the 200 free and Mueller finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Prado de Lima added a fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly, missing out on placement in the top two by less than a second. Emily Wood also recorded a fourth-place finish, doing so in the 200 free and collecting 11 points towards the women's total points. Caitlin Freeny placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:11.54. After earning the last spot in the A final, Seitz collected a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.33. Travis Durocher also finished sixth, doing so in the 100 butterfly event, finishing just .06 seconds behind fifth place.
