Traffic still blocked on KY 551 at Discount Auto

EGYPT, ADAIR CO., KY - (9:40amCT Wed 26 Oct 2016) - Highway 551 is still blocked due to the massive fire at Billy Rice Auto. First responders from the Adair County Fire Department, Knifley Fire Department and Adair County Sheriff's office have been on the scene since the fire was discovered around 7:20 a.m. when an employee came in to find the building engulfed in flames. The location is on the Knifley Road, in the Egypt community of Adair County.



His building is a total loss however, builder Mike Newton is on site and says they can get him back up and running within days or a few weeks.

Updates will continue as details are known here on columbiamagazine.com and on the Big Dawg and the WAVE radio.

The Adair County Sheriff's office had traffic blocked in both directions while a huge fire was being contained this morning at Billy Rice's Discount Auto Sales. The fire was reported at 7:20amCT, this morning. Firefighters from the Adair County Volunteer Fire Department and the Knifley Area Fire Department responded. The building appears to be a total loss. - Ed Waggener

Billy Rice's Discount Auto Sales

Cars on the north side of Billy Rice's Discount Auto in Egypt showed little evidence of damage from the blaze with destroyed the original building at the business. The owner was talking with builders, who said they could move quickly to replace the building as soon as the rubbish is removed and the site readied for a new building. - ED WAGGENER

Adair County VFD Chief Terry Flatt, after over hours fighting blaze

Adair County Fire Chief crosses a blocked in both directions Knifley Road as firefighters had been on the scene containing the blaze which engulfed Discount Auto Sales this morning. Chief Flatt said that the fire was discovered and reported by an employee at 7:20amCT, Wednesday morning, October 26, 2016. Firefighters from Knifley Area VFD also responded, for a total of 20 firefighters. Traffic control was maintained by Adair County Sheriff's Office. - ED WAGGENER.

Adair County Sheriff's Office maintained traffic blocks closing all lanes of traffic while firefighters calmed the fire which destroyed Discount Sales, today. Sheriff Harrison Moss directed autos to turn around, above. The only vehicle he allowed to pass was the United States of America Mail Carrier. All others were ordered to turn around. At left, Gerald Burton, of Vester, was on the scene in an observer capacity. - EW
