ACHS dinner variety show earns rave reviews High School Theatre Dept.'s first show of the year proves a hit. More than 100 people--consisting of family, friends, community members, and students--battled rain and thunderstorms to attend last Thursday night's (October 20, 2016) Dinner Variety Show at Adair County High School, presented by the ACHS Theatre Dept. The group's first production of the year proved a rousing success, and received universal praise from those in attendance. The group's first production of the year proved a rousing success, and received universal praise from those in attendance. "One of the memorable compliments of the night was from a woman in attendance who said she'd frequented shows all over the region and that this wasn't 'only great for a high school show, it was just flat-out great,'" says drama teacher Brett Reliford, who, along with Ginna Marsh, oversaw the production. "We owe a huge thanks to the community for their attendance and for everyone who had a part in making this a successful night." Along with the catered meal, attendees were treated to a variety of different skits and performances, ranging from standup comedy and Saturday Night Live-style sketches to musical numbers. The intimate setup in the high school cafeteria allowed the audience an up-close-and-personal setting for their viewing pleasure. Reliford says he is as proud of the work that went into the show as he is of the finished product that was on display Thursday. "Three weeks prior to production, the program was a blank sheet of paper," Reliford explains. "We remarked to the crowd about how special it is to be able to create this and share it with them. The students had a great time, and in the process have learned more about the discipline of live performance." The event concluded with a special unveiling of next semester's spring production, Legally Blonde: The Musical, which is scheduled for April 20 and 21 at the Hodge Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College.
