PRIDE Extends Deadline for Environmental Education Grants By Angela Traver Somerset, KY - Eastern Kentucky PRIDE has extended the deadline for 2016-17 Environmental Education grants to October 31, 2016. Educators from across PRIDE's service region are encouraged to apply for these funds to help expand environmental awareness in our region. PRIDE is currently accepting applications for the 2016-17 PRIDE Environmental Education Grant Program, thanks to a grant from Appalachian Regional Commission. The funds can be used for a variety of educational activities that achieve the objectives of the PRIDE Environmental Education Grant Program, which are:
The grant amount will be up to $2750. The grant will be awarded to the school board or nonprofit organization that represents the eligible applicant. Eligible applicants are teachers from public and private school systems; educational institutions applying as a school; and non-formal educators. Non-profit organizations interested in the promotion of environmental education may apply. Applicants must be working with schools or organizations within the following counties: Adair, Bath, Bell, Breathitt, Carter, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Elliott, Floyd, Green, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Menifee, Metcalfe, Monroe, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Rowan, Russell, Wayne, Whitley and Wolfe. The grant period will extend from November 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017. All materials are required to be purchased by April 30, 2017; no extension will be awarded. How to apply: The Grant Application is available online as a PDF document at http://www.kypride.org. To submit the Grant Application, please mail, e-mail, fax or hand-deliver it to PRIDE. The Grant Application must be received by PRIDE or postmarked by 4 pm ET on October 31, 2016. About PRIDE PRIDE, which stands for "Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment," was founded in 1997 by Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5) and the late James Bickford, who was the Kentucky Secretary for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. The PRIDE mission is to contribute to the economic and cultural growth of southern and eastern Kentucky by improving water quality, cleaning up solid waste problems and advancing environmental education, in order to improve living conditions for its residents while enhancing the potential for tourism industry growth in the region.
