In 50s, 60s, Fairgrounds was the only field to play baseball JCJohnson writes: Back in the 50s and 60s as far as I recall the fairgrounds was the only field that we had to play baseball. We played our little league, our high school baseball at that rock pile, if you hit a ball into the oak trees it was a double not a home run. The only way you could get a home run was to run very fast around the bases, if it didn\'t hit a limb in the oak trees.
