One old man's opinion on 'new' tradition at LWC

Comments re photo 68298 Artist rendering new Lindsey Wilson Victory Bell Tower

Bill Parson writes:
Ed. I am somewhat confused, or amused; how does new and tradition fit in the same sentence? Why can't the mascot, Blue Raider Bob, be charged with ringing the bell after a BlueRaider win, in any sport? Basketball, football, soccer, bicycling, etc., for both men's and women's teams? That would return a Tradition to the hill, and to Columbia. I definitely remember when we as students rushed to the administration building to "ring the bell" following a basketball game when Lindsey Wilson won. It was an honor to be the "bell ringer" and I'm sure that would be the same today. As Lindsey Wilson would be passing on a " TRADITION."

Just one old man's opinion. --X/Bill Parson

Bill Parson - Thanks. They'll probably be discussing this at the very highest levels up there. As I understand, the Very Highest Levels will be the only ones with access to the key which accesses the rope. If you have influence with Mike, or better yet, Garry, you might oughta reason with them. - ED WAGGENER (LWJC '60; still traumatized by memories of bullies putting my car down the stairwell at the back of the administration building 47 years ago.)

PS - It wasn't a minor psychological blow. To this day even when chauffeured in Linda's "big" car, a little Honda SUV, when she parks the vehicle at Cranmer, I cast an wary eye to see if Red or Blackie or Bear Creek are lurking somewhere before entering the hall. - Eddie
