Special called meeting City Council 16 Aug 2016 - Report

Several badly needed paving projects in the City of Columbia will be completed this year following action taken in Special City Council meeting tonight.

The Columbia City Council opened the single bid received for paving work on seven city streets in a special called meeting Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

The bid was from Gaddie-Shamrock for tons of blacktop in the amount of $89,950. The streets to be worked on are listed below.


  1. Yates Street: begin at Woody 616' x 12'. Stop at Tutt Street. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.

  2. Woody Street: begin at E. Fraser St. 607' x 14' and stop at Yates Street. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.

  3. East Guardian Street: begin at Burkesville Street 1250' x 20' and stop at East Fraser. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.

  4. Bomar Heights: begin at Burkesville Street 4225' x 21' and stop at Jamestown Street. Level holes. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.

  5. Wall Street: begin at Mark by merchant Street 435' x 22'. Stop at Mark. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.

  6. Edgewood Drive: begin at Fraser Street 18' x 140'. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.Stop at Mark.

  7. Akin Street: begin at tit Street 404' x 12'. Stop at Mark. Bit. Resurface. Rolled 1 1/4 inch.
Councilmember Ronald Rogers made the motion the bid be accepted as read. Councilmember Mark Harris seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.

No other business was discussed during the called meeting as regulations require.

Woody Avenue among streets to be paved

Yates Street from this point to Tutt Street is part of the paving program okayed by the Columbia City Council at the special called meeting, Tue 16 Aug 2016. As well, the program includes Woody Avenue to E Frazier Avenue. The near downtown area has taken on new importance with the start of a new subdivision by Greg, Jacob, and Elliott Burton. The home in the background is the first of several which will be constructed there.
