Taylor County Adult Learning Center was recently named one of the Top 25 centers in the state, and has been for the past several years.

The center, which Campbellsville Independent Schools sponsors, recently hired a new instructor to help even more adults in Taylor County work toward completing their GED.

Four employees make up those who work at the center, and are charged with helping those in the community prepare to take the GED.

Midge Hunt is director, and Melinda Parrott is the lead instructor.

David Payne is also an instructor at the center, and Jennifer Willis was recently hired as an additional instructor.

Hunt recently told Campbellsville Board of Education members that last school year was very successful at the center.

She said the center, once again, finished in the Top 25 centers in the state when it comes to the number of clients receiving their GED.

One of those who completed a GED at her center began at a fourth- to sixth-grade level, Hunt said, and was one of very few in the state to start at that level and finish.

The center finished 16th in the state for the number of GEDs completed last year.

"It's not been easy," Hunt said. "We've had a lot of obstacles. It's looking better all the time."

The center receives state and federal funding to operate. It is located at 601 David St. The center also has an office at the Kentucky Career Center on East Broadway.

Taylor County Adult Learning Center is geared toward offering adult students the opportunity to improve their basic education skills so they are better prepared for their future.

Those at the center strive to help students so they can compete for good jobs, support their families and attain post-secondary goals.

The center offers a full range of basic educational services to those who need to improve their reading, math or language skills. Services are also offered to help students pass pre-employment exams and to upgrade workplace skills.

Instructors travel to Taylor County Detention Center, local treatment facilities and other locations to help students.

The employees at the center are dedicated to helping students succeed. More information about the employees follows.
