LEWISTON, ID (Fri 27 May 2016) - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team picked up the program's first-ever victory at the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series as the Blue Raiders took down The Master's (CA) by a 7-1 margin on Friday afternoon at Harris Field.

The eighth-seeded Blue Raiders (43-23) now face top-seeded Faulkner (AL) on Saturday at 8:30pmCT in a winner's bracket game. Lindsey Wilson and Faulkner played twice this year back in February with the Blue Raiders winning both games by 5-4 scores.

Scott Sebald (11-3) put forth another gem on the mound with a complete-game effort, his fifth in his last six starts, while striking out a season-high 12 batters and allowing four hits on 114 pitches. He also struck out 12 against Cumberlands (KY) back on March 25. The senior faced the minimum number of Mustang (41-18) batters in six of his nine innings pitched.

Sebald was aided by six runs across the final five innings, including a three-run spot in the eighth.

Lindsey Wilson had the first scoring opportunity of the contest. Edgar Lebron laced a one-out double down the right-field line and Aaron Ashton followed with a walk. But the runners were unable to move any further as a fielder's choice and fly out in foul territory ended the threat.

The Blue Raiders opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of Mustang miscues.

Brandon Munoz led off with a single and later moved to second on an error. Later in the inning with two outs, the Blue Raiders took advantage of another error. Dustin Woody hit a ball towards second base as the Mustang second baseman slipped on his first step towards the ball. He recovered and managed to collect the ball, but then rushed his throw to first, sending it high and allowing Munoz to come around and score from second on the wild throw for the 1-0 lead.

Sebald got into a bit of trouble in the top of the third after giving up a one-out walk, followed by a single to put runners on the corners, but the senior zeroed in and struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam, his fourth and fifth strikeouts of the day.

After Sebald struck out the side in the fourth, the Blue Raiders again put a pair of runners on in the bottom half of the inning but were unsuccessful in sending them home.

Lindsey Wilson was finally able to push across some runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of some more Mustang errors.

Lebron hit a one-out single up the middle and proceeded to move to second on a stolen base, and took third after the throw down to second went wide. He scored two pitches later when Ashton sent a ball to left field to double the Blue Raider lead at 2-0.

After Ashton took second on a wild pitch, Austin Atwell kept things rolling with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. Jan Carlos Ortiz then hit a ground ball to short which the Mustang shortstop booted, allowing Ashton to score for the 3-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the 4-0 lead but also left runners stranded in scoring position.

The Master's finally broke up the shut out in the top of the seventh when Nick Covello hit a solo shot to centerfield, his team-leading 18th homer of the season and first home run hit at the World Series this year.

Alec Salcedo had to make a great leaping catch at the warning track on the very next batter before Sebald struck out his 11th batter of the game to end the inning.

Sebald added his 12th strikeout in the eight before Lindsey Wilson put forth run support in the form on a three spot in the bottom of the eighth.

Caleb Ratzman led off with single and with the hit-and-run on, Lebron sent a double to left field to put runners on second and third with one out. Ashton then made it a 3-for-4 day with a single to right field to push the lead to 5-1. Atwell followed with a triple to the right-centerfield gap that scored Lebron and pinch-runner Ray Gonzalez to make it a 7-1 lead.

Sebald then capped off his day with a one-two-three inning in the ninth as the Blue Raiders earned the 7-1 win.

Lindsey Wilson outhit the Mustangs 12-4 while The Master's committed five errors on the day. The Blue Raiders did strand 11 runners in the game.

The Mustang's Conor Menez took the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in his six innings.
