Barbara J. Murrell, Adair County, KY (1937-2016)

She had professed her faith in Christ at a young age and was a member of The Columbia Christian Church. She was a longtime employee of Young & Wilson Drugs and Columbia Pharmacy. She was a beloved member of the community and the matriarch of a highly regarded family. She was the daughter of the late Frank Bennett and Lorena Coomer Bennett, and the widow of Tommie Murrell. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Barbara J. Murrell age 78 years of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2pmCT, at the home of her son.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 11amCT, Sunday, April 24, 2016.



Barbara J. Murrell, Adair County, KY (1937-2016)


She was born on June 7, 1937 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Frank Bennett and Lorena Coomer Bennett. She died Friday, April 22, 2016, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 15 days.

She was the widow of Tommie Murrell, who preceded her in death on August 29, 1974.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Lyndell Bennett.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two sons: Greg Murrell and his wife Laura of Columbia, KY; and David Murrell of Nashville, TN

  • Three granddaughters: Emily (Abe) Cross of Glensfork, KY; Olivia (Tyler) Sanders of Knoxville, TN; and Anna Murrell of Columbia, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Delaney Rose Cross & Deacon Holt Cross of Glensfork, KY

  • Three sisters: Peggy Bennett & Elaine (Mike) Downs of Columbia, KY; and Patsy (Jimmy) Sapp of Carrolton, KY

  • Two brothers: Jimmie (Brenda) Bennett & Barry (Marsha) Bennett of Columbia, KY

  • Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends
