Academic Team Student Testimonial: Eli Jackson's story

Intrigued by the research to answer Academic Team physics questions, Eli Jackson fell under the discipline's spell. Now this outstanding young Adair County has set his sights on a career in science, in physics. The Academic Team played a big role, he acknowledges, writing, 'The Academic Team has been an important part of my life, and as I leave high school and enter college, I will remember the Academic Team as something that made me become the person I am today.'

By Eli Jackson

When I joined the Academic Team in 2008, I did not understand how much it would affect me. Before High School, I didn't take it too seriously, and it was just somewhere to have fun. But since I have reached High School, I have realized how important the Academic Team is to me.

Being a part of the Adair County Academic Team has shaped me as a person. No matter what was happening with my friends or family, I would always show up to meet the same people after school, Monday through Thursday. The Academic Team has not only shaped my intellectual interests, but my personality and goals as well. Since my freshman year, I have been pushed to do better. I have seen firsthand what hard work and determination can do for any person willing to put in the effort. Someone coming in with no knowledge on a subject can be a master of it by the time they leave.

The Academic Team has inspired my pursuit of a career in Physics. When I started out high school, I knew I loved science and everything about it, but I never really knew what I would do with that love. During the practices after school, I kept hearing questions about Physics. The topics that were so foreign intrigued me. When I researched more about the Physics questions I was missing, I kept getting more and more interested in it. I had fallen down the Physics rabbit hole. Since then, I have decided to major in Physics and do research in the field.

The Academic Team has introduced me to people that I would have otherwise not met. I have been able to hear different stories of different people's lives and been able to understand different viewpoints of the world. Being with the very different people, I have taken different people's values and have used them to shape how I understand the world.

The Academic Team has been very important for the development of me into an adult. It has taught me how I can set goals, how I can work on achieving them, and how I can understand myself in the process. The Academic Team has been an important part of my life, and as I leave high school and enter college, I will remember the Academic Team as something that made me become the person I am today.

Sincerely,

- Eli Jackson
