MONTGOMERY, AL (Sun 21 Feb 2016) - The seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team concluded their four-game Alabama road swing with another split on Saturday, taking down No. 3 Faulkner (AL) for the second day in a row while falling to host No. 13 Auburn-Montgomery.

Lindsey Wilson topped the Eagles 5-4 in a walk-off win to start the day, but was unable to put together another late rally as the Blue Raiders fell to Auburn-Montgomery 4-3 in the nightcap. Both contests were scheduled seven-inning affairs.

The Blue Raiders (7-4) finish the trip with a 2-2 record with a pair of wins over Faulkner (9-4), and one loss each to Talladega (AL) (10-5) and Auburn-Montgomery (9-3).

GAME 1: LWC 5. Faulkner 4

For the second time in as many days, Lindsey Wilson scored in the final inning to top Faulkner by a 5-4 score, doing so in a wild walk-off win on Sunday to start the doubleheader.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Edgar Lebron singled and later moved to third on a double by Brandon Munoz. Aaron Ashton then hit a ground ball to Eagle first baseman David Palenzuela. Palenzuela got the out at first, but then his throw home trying to get Lebron was off the mark and skidded away, allowing Munoz to come all the way home to second to score on the walk-off error.

Lindsey Wilson also beat Faulkner on Saturday in a 5-4 game after Austin Atwell hit a pinch hit solo home run in the top of the seventh.

A run in the first and second innings put Faulkner ahead 2-0 to start the rematch on Sunday until the bottom of the fourth when Lindsey Wilson tied things up on a two-run home run from Miguel Reyes.

The Eagles responded in the very next inning with two runs of their own, scoring on sacrifice fly and an RBI double to take a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Blue Raiders loaded the bases with two outs. Victor Nazario reached safely on wild throw that allowed Lebron to score from third, but Munoz was thrown out on the play at the plate attempting to capitalize on the Eagle mishap, keeping Faulkner ahead by one.

The sixth inning went by scoreless before the wild finish in the seventh that secured the Blue Raiders' their first walk-off win of the season.

Daniel Ferrell (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after entering in the fifth and finishing out the game. He did not allow a run while giving up four hits without issuing a walk. Andy Weddle got the start as he went four innings allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits.

Faulkner's Austin Moreland suffered the loss giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits.

Reyes had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with two RBIs while Lebron recorded two hits.

GAME 2 - LWC falls to AUM

The game against Auburn-Montgomery saw the Warhawks break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the late win.

Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring in their first plate appearance. Munoz and Ashton both reached on singles and Munoz later scored on an Atwell sacrifice fly to make it a 1-0 game. But the Warhawks responded by scoring a run in each of the next three innings to jump ahead 3-1, scoring on a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double.

The Blue Raiders once again found a way to tie things up using the long ball in the top of the fourth. After Atwell reached on a single, Jan Carlos Ortiz sent a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall, his second home run of the season, to even the game at 3-3.

The Warhawks attempted to retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth after loading the bases on three walks, but relief pitcher James Doubet was able to get the Blue Raiders out of the jam with a groundout.

Lindsey Wilson then took their turn at attempting to grab the lead in the top of the sixth, but a fielder's choice ended the inning with a Blue Raider left stranded 90 feet from home.

Auburn-Montgomery finally did take the lead back, taking advantage of a costly error in the bottom of the sixth.

The Warhawks led off with a double, but lost steam in the inning after two quick outs. Brandon Pooler then hit a ball to third base where Munoz fielded it, but had a bad throw to first that skipped away, allowing the runner on second to score the go-ahead run.

There was nothing going for the Blue Raiders in the final inning as they were retired in order to end the game.

Doubet (1-1) was hit with the hard-luck loss as he gave up just one unearned run on one hit in 1-2/3 innings. Ortiz and Atwell both had two hits in the loss.

The Blue Raiders conclude their 11-game road trip to start 2016 with a 7-4 record, including multiple wins over No. 2, No. 3 and No. 11. Charles Balcom is Assistant Sports Information Director, Lindsey Wilson College
