Vicky Pike: Black vultures dangerous to our livestock They kill calves and blind calving mothers and they are protected by a treaty with Mexico By Victoria Pike Black vultures are not a Kentucky bird but are the national bird of Mexico and they are very dangerous to our livestock. They sit around waiting to attack when our cattle are having new babies. They will pick cows' eyes out while they are down calving and get the calf especially in the eyes as well. They are migrating further north and are protected by a treaty with Mexico. You must obtain a permit to kill these birds even if they are attacking your cattle or Possibly face a huge fine. They killed a cow and calf for me and this year were attacking a new calf right here by my house. Luckily Ernie Rogers was passing and called to tell me and I was able to rescue poor Peanut and get him and his frantic mother to the barn. - Victoria Pike Comments re photo 64761 Birds of KY Vultures catching some rays Adair Co KY This story was posted on 2016-02-08 05:28:52
