Leslie (Tuger Bill) Whittle, 88, Russell Co., KY (1927-2015)

Leslie "Tuger Bill" Whittle served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a native of Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of the late James Elmer & Sola Owens Whittle. His wife of 59 years, Monnie Whittle, survives. He was a patriarch of a large, highly regarded family, and leaves 29 direct living descenants.

Leslie "Tuger Bill" Whittle, 88, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service for Leslie "Tuger Bill" Whittle will be 10amCT, Thursday, December 31, 2015, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Elvis Tucker officiating. Visitation will be 6-8pmCT, Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Burial will be in the McBeath Cemetery with full military honors by the Russell County Honor Guard. Special Music will be rendered by Doyle & Brenda Wilson.



Pallbearers: James Whittle, Gary Whittle, David Whittle, Darrell Whittle, Ronnie Whittle, Frankie McGowan, and Steve McBeath.

Leslie "Tuger Bill" Whittle, was born October 11, 1927 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN. He was the son of the late James Elmer & Sola Owens Whittle. He died Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Russell Springs, Russell Co., KY, at the age of 88 years, two months, and 16 days.

He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Hollis "I.U." Whittle and a sister, Lucille Braley.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Monnie Buttram Whittle, Russell Springs, KY, and the following:
  • Five children: James (Sylvia) Whittle, Phoenix, AZ; Gary (Teresa) Whittle, Walton, KY; Carol (Alfred) Hiles, Walton, KY; David (Linda) Whittle, Crittenden, KY; and Darrell Whittle, Russell Springs, KY

  • Thirteen grandchildren

  • Eleven great grandchildren

  • One sister: Lena Braley, Blanchester, Ohio
