SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team opens pool play on Tuesday evening at the 2015 NAIA Volleyball National Championship with a 5:45pmCT matchup with host institution Briar Cliff (Iowa) at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The top-ranked Blue Raiders then face No. 14 MidAmerica Nazarene (KS) on Wednesday night at 5:45pmCT, before concluding play in Pool A with an 8pmCT meeting with No. 11-ranked Eastern Oregon.

At the conclusion of pool play, the top two teams from each of the six pools advance to the single-elimination tournament bracket.

Lindsey Wilson (33-3) enters the national tournament as the top overall seed and received a bye directly to the final championship site in Sioux City. The Blue Raiders earned a spot in the field after collecting the Mid-South Conference’s automatic berth from winning the MSC Tournament.

Lindsey Wilson also captured the MSC regular-season title after posting a 15-1 conference record. It marks the third-consecutive season that the Blue Raiders have secured the MSC regular-season crown, posting a combined 47-1 conference record during that span.

Lindsey Wilson is led by MSC Player of the Year Carol Siqueira who has 426 total kills and is averaging 3.8 kills per set, the 26th-most in the NAIA. Siqueira is two kills from entering the program’s all-time top-10 list for most kills in a single season. MSC Freshman of the Year Ragni Knudsen sits behind Siqueira with 372 kills on the year. Setter Makenzie Montano facilitates the offense with 1,266 assists while adding 205 kills, 323 digs and 41 blocks to go along with her .449 attacking percentage. Caitlyn Tino paces the team with 452 digs while Carolynne Silva has 98.0 total blocks. The Blue Raiders boast six total MSC all-conference selections, four First Team selections and a pair of Second Team members.

As a team, Lindsey Wilson ranks No. 5 in the NAIA in hitting percentage with a .291 mark. The Blue Raiders are ranked No. 8 in kills per set at 13.93, and 25th in total kills with 1,700.

Two-time MSC Coach of the Year Andy Cavins has led his squad to an NAIA postseason appearance in all five years he has been at the helm of the program. After inheriting a team that went 12-23 in the season before his arrival, Cavins turned the program around and the Blue Raiders have compiled a 165-31 record during his tenure, collecting four MSC regular-season titles and three MSC tournament crowns.

Briar Cliff (17-11) earned a bye directly to pool play for serving as the host institution at the national championship event. The Chargers enter the postseason unranked and are making their fourth all-time appearance at the national tournament, posting a 1-8 record.

The Chargers enter the field having lost their most-recent match, a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Hastings (Neb.) in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

First Team GPAC selection Breanna Nogelmeier leads the Chargers with a .387 attacking percentage, the fourth-highest in the NAIA, to go along with her team-leading 100 blocks and 237 kills, the second-most on the team. Second Team GPAC selection Katelin Langel leads the squad with 302 total kills while averaging 3.25 kills per set. Ruthie Schmitt leads the team with 512 assists while Amber Frank paces the team with 512 digs.

Lindsey Wilson and Briar Cliff also met in Pool A at the 2014 NAIA Volleyball National Championship with the Blue Raiders topping the Chargers 3-1. Briar Cliff did not advance out of pool play last season.

MidAmerica Nazarene (26-9) earned a trip to the final championship site in Sioux City after sweeping Union (KY) in their NAIA Opening Round match on Nov. 21. The Pioneers secured a postseason berth after securing both the Heart of American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles.

MidAmerica Nazarene is riding a five-match win streak entering the final site and are making their fourth all-time appearance at the national championship, posting a 9-5 record. The Pioneers were absent from the national championship field a year ago.

The Pioneers are led by HAAC Player and Setter of the Year and First Team selection Rachel Kater who ranks No. 4 in the NAIA in total assists (1,438) and assists per set (11.6). A trio of Pioneers have all eclipsed the 300 kill mark including Gisele Silva (376), Sofija Berezovska (343) and Taylor Cowan (316).

MidAmerica Nazarene uses their height and length when it comes to the defensive side of the net as they rank No. 4 in the NAIA with 330.5 total blocks, and No. 7 with 2.67 blocks per set. Cowan leads the team and ranks No. 4 with 177 total blocks on the year, while Cailyn Bessmer is second on the team with 127 blocks. Five Pioneers have at least 245 digs on the year led by Tashley Snyder’s 540. MidAmerica Nazarene boasts four, First Team GPAC selections and a pair of Second Team selections.

Head coach Kristin Steele earned her fourth GPAC Coach of the Year honor in just her sixth season as head coach of MidAmerica Nazarene. She has racked up a 145-60 record with four conference regular season titles and four tournament titles for the Pioneers.

Eastern Oregon (24-4) also received a bye directly to the final site of the national championship in Sioux City, the final team to do so. The Mountaineers earned a spot in the tournament field after receiving one of the eight at-large bids. They are making their second national tournament appearance where they hold a record of 4-2. Eastern Oregon advanced to the quarterfinal round of the national championship a season ago before being knocked out by Biola (CA). The Mountaineers enter the national postseason coming off a loss to No. 15 College of Idaho in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament finals 3-0. Rachelle Chamberlain leads the Eastern Oregon offense as she has 1,126 total assists and ranks No. 6 in the NAIA with 11.26 assists per set. Amanda Miller has a team-high 326 kills while Piper Cantrell leads the squad with 408 digs. Emily Nay and Kasaundra Tuma lead the defense with 113.0 and 110.0 blocks, respectively. Four Mountaineers earned CCC all-conference honors including three First Team selections.

As a team, Eastern Oregon is efficient on both sides of the net as they rank No. 4 in assists per game (13.0) and No. 11 in the nation in both kills per set (13.8) and blocks per set (2.5).

Head coach Kaki McLean Morehead was named the CCC Coach of the Year after leading Eastern Oregon to its first-ever outright regular-season title in 2015. She holds a record of 180-78 in nine seasons with the Mountaineers.
