Allene (Peggy) McKinney Darnell, Green Co., KY (1930-2015)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church, and attended the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church for several years. She was retired from Fruit of the Loom, Inc., and after her retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard and flowers. She loved to be with people, so she volunteered at the Green County Food Bank and was a volunteer with the Crossroads Youth Ministry at the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Peggy loved to send greeting cards to anyone who was sick or just needed cheering up. She loved animals and had two dogs, Honey and Mary, and a cat named Matt.

Mrs. Allene Hortense "Peggy" McKinney Darnell, 85, of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at her home in Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Allene "Peggy" McKinney Darnell will be conducted at 1pmCT, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the Darnell Family Cemetery in Green County. Bro. Kevin Brantley will be officiating. Visitation was requested from 3pmCT until 8pmCT, Friday, October 10, 2015,at the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church and after 8amCT, Saturday at the church until time of the funeral service.



Pallbearers: Jim Perkins, James L. Darnell, Steve Stearman, Kenneth Pruitt, Timmy Cissell, Ronnie O. Milby, Wayne Wright, and John David Pickett.

Honorary pallbearers: D. J. and Sue Davis, Virgil Noe, Mike Darnell, Kenny Darnell, Chester and Jackie Boston, Clinton and Margie Kelly, and Bill and Bettie Jo Russell.

Mrs. Allene Hortense "Peggy" McKinney Darnell of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Woodson Franklin McKinney and Lydia Pierce McKinney, was born on May 31, 1930 in Green County, KY, and departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at her home in Greensburg, Green County, KY. She was 85 years, four months, and seven days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church, and attended the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church for several years. She was retired from Fruit of the Loom, Inc., and after her retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard and flowers. She loved to be with people, so she volunteered at the Green County Food Bank and was a volunteer with the Crossroads Youth Ministry at the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Peggy loved to send greeting cards to anyone who was sick or just needed cheering up. She loved animals and had two dogs, Honey and Mary, and a cat named Matt.

She united in marriage to Elmer Lee "Pee Diddle" Darnell on August 7, 1948 who preceded her in death on October 4, 1984.

Survivors include:
  • Two daughters and a son-in-law: Sandi and Larry Moran, and Vicki Darnell all of Greensburg, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Tim Darnell and his wife Lisa of Greensburg, KY; and Erin Beth Hickerson and her husband Zac of Louisville, KY

  • Two great-grandchildren: Emma Hickerson and Peyton Hickerson both of Louisville, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
Peggy was also preceded in death by a step-grandson: Cody Ervin; a sister: Violet McKinney Darnell Phillips; and a brother: Paul McKinney.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hosparus of Green River or the Green County Food Bank, which can be made at the funeral home.
