Nancy Bouldin Suddarth Willis, 83, Adair Co., KY (1932-2015)

She brightened the days of all she met with her smile and engaging personality. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded old line Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Murray and Jimmie Curd Suddarth, and the widow of Bobbie Creel Willis, her husband of 53 years. She leaves 21 direct living descendants and one expected a great granddaughter. She graduated from Columbia High School, Lindsey Wilson College, and Centre College with a degree in History. She was a member of Eastern Star, several genealogical societies, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Columbia Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member of the WMU and Piecemakers Quilters. In DAR, she was a former Regent of the Jane Lampton Chapter.

Nancy Bouldin Suddarth Willis, age 83 years, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Summit Manor Health and Rehab, Columbia, KY.

Funeral service Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Doctor Bill Scott and Reverend Ken Hill, officiating. Burial will be at Murray Todd Cemetery on the family farm. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Friday, August 14, 2015. Pallbearers: Josh Willis, Jordan Willis, Wesley Feese, Shahid Iqbal, Byron Watkins, and Bobby Beard.

She was born in Adair County on Wednesday, April 6, 1932. She was the daughter of Samuel Murray and Jimmie Curd Suddarth. She died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 83 years, four months, and five days.

Both parents, half-sisters Isabel Hendrickson and Rachel Smythe, and husband of 53 years, Bobbie Creel Willis, preceded her in death. Nancy graduated from Columbia High School, Lindsey Wilson College, and Centre College with a degree in History. She was a member of Eastern Star, several genealogical societies, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Columbia Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member of the WMU and Piecemakers Quilters. In DAR, she was a former Regent of the Jane Lampton Chapter.

She is survived by the following:
  • Son: Mark (Susan) Willis of Adair Co., KY

  • Daughters: Beverly (Donald) Rothenberger of Mecosta, MI; Brenna (Jeff) Taylor of Montgomery, TX; Jaime (Bruce) White and Rose Willis of Adair Co., KY; Theresa West of Lexington, KY; and Robin (Ken) Hill of Cypress, TX

  • Sister: Mattie (Byron) Watkins of Madisonville, KY

  • Grandchildren: Joseph Murray, Amanda Murray, Julie Eshleman, Stephanie Jahnz, Michael Taylor, Josh Willis, Jordan Willis, Wesley Feese, Kara Iqbal, Laura Feese, Rachel Hill and Nathan Hill

  • Great-grandchildren: Eli Iqbal and Reagan Eshleman
  • A third great-grandchild: Eva Iqbal, is expected in September
