Remembering Edgar Holmes: Writer sure does miss him, already

Edgar Holmes, 94, Adair County, KY (1921-2015)

By Morgan Long

Edgar loved to eat. I enjoyed fixing him many meals which at different times consisted of some of his favorites polk, hoecakes, white beans, salmon patties and cabbage.

In early spring the first thing he would ask "Is Polk about ready?" On the days I was cooking for him I would call to let him know and he was in the driveway before we could hang up the phone!

Edgar and I spent many hours reliving the past. He always said that James Long, who was my dad, was the best friend he ever had.

Edgar had a sharp memory and relived the past often he had seen many changes in his life.

Everytime I would go to town I would know where to find him and we would sit and talk. He came to my house almost everyday; he loved to sit here and reminisce about the past.

He enjoyed watching us work around the yard and loved the view.

He would bring his meals out here from town to eat and always saved some extras "to feed the critters"

Thanks Edgar for feeding the critters for us we now have nightly visitors which consist of rabbits, squirrels, deer, 2 skunks and a fox!

Sure do miss you already Edgar!
