Opening of Glasgow, KY Outer Loop delayed The new 2.5 mile stretch provides two more access points to LBN Parkway Click on headline for complete story By Wes Watt BOWLING GREEN, KY (26 May 2015)- The opening of the new section of the Glasgow Outer Loop is delayed until Thursday, May 28, 2015. The section was scheduled to open today, but weather conditions combined with other factors hindered crews from putting the final touches on the project. The ribbon cutting ceremony is still scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 10amCT, on the bridge over the creek. This section of the Outer Loop is approximately two and half miles and connects US 68 to the Louie B Nunn Cumberland Parkway and continues to KY 1297. The $24 million construction for this section was awarded to Scotty's Contracting and Stone LLC and began October 29, 2012. The opening of this section completes an idea 40 years in the making. The project was originally conceived through the 1970 Urban Transportation Study and was added to the highway plan in the mid-nineties. The other sections completed in the early 2000s connected US 68 to US 31E and US 31E to the Louis B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway. American Engineers designed the entire loop as a four-lane highway with depressed median and paved shoulders. The complete loop is about eight and half miles with a construction cost of more than $70 million. The Loop's purpose was to improve safety, greater mobility and connectivity in the Glasgow and Barren County areas. The project allows a much more efficient and accessible route to navigate through Glasgow and Barren County, while providing two additional access points to the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway.
