People driving on a 'bypass' don't expect stops 'Our local residents have become morbidly aware of how dangerous the bypass has become, but those passing through from other areas to tend to forget or don't realize that there are stop lights in place,' - CYNTHIA MEYER By Cynthia A Meyer How many of the wrecks and mishaps involved drivers not from this area? Not that out of towners are the only problem, but once you start driving on the bypass, it is seems like a fast tract on the way to where you are going. Folks forget they are not driving on the parkway especially if they are not from this area. The landscape and terrain with the road wide open in front of them make it appear safe to speed up. Also by virtue of calling it a bypass, many do not expect red lights or intersections, so they sail on into dangerous situations. Our local residents have become morbidly aware of how dangerous the bypass has become, but those passing through from other areas to tend to forget or don\'t realize that there are stop lights in place. Personally, I think rumble strips in all directions would help jolt drivers attention back to the road. It would not be the only or best solution, however it would be the cheapest and easiest place to start. This story was posted on 2015-04-01 10:26:56
