Courtney Foster: We love our ACHS teachers

Comments about: Rickie Williams comments on Adair School Attendance

By Courtney Foster
Personal commentaary

Hello, I'd like to answer in response to Rickie William's comment about the attendance of faculty and staff. As a student attending Adair County High School, I'd like to start off saying I am most proud of my district.

And while it is true that we are a work in progress, we are a wonderful district all the same. I have had the liberty of meeting most of the faculty and staff here, and make lasting friendships with my educators.

All of my experiences with said faculty have been in good spirits and joyous. However, I'd like to say that we are all human here. There are occasions where we are not always able to have the good day we plan to have. Teachers and students alike, as humans, should be allowed to BE human.

If you have had such liberty as to always have sunshiny days and many smiles that were wholehearted, I congratulate you.

But being the human I so gratefully am, I must point out to you that we humans are not immune to the casualties of life. Sickness, death, and family emergencies are only a tidbit of the insurmountable obstacles life throws at us.

And while you may think death is the only reason said faculty and staff should miss their daily duties, I for one completely disagree on the matter.

I am quite sure that you have encountered such obstacles in your life. If, however, I am in the wrong, I send my utmost apologies. Many of the teachers I have encountered have children they care for on a daily basis. Now again, as humans, they acquire sicknesses. Such sicknesses cannot always be taken care of on their own. In the case that teachers may need to leave their job to take care of their child, I have never once seen a teacher leave their class without proper instruction or someone to oversee or instruct them.

If you have ever had a death in the family, you might be in the know of how depressing and hurtful it might be. And while it is not the teacher who is dead, I wholeheartedly believe that they should be excused to grieve and celebrate the lost and their life.

I have had the honor of having a teacher in class as a freshman who is currently out in remission due to blood cancer. He has had to appoint a long-term sub who is a wonderful substitute to his kids.

I think I speak for everyone when i say that we are in total support for him and also for our other wonderful faculty and staff.

If after my response, your mind has not changed, I am horribly sorry for your time.

However, to close my argument let me say one thing : WE LOVE OUR TEACHERS. Your point, I\'m afraid, is invalid. - Courtney Foster
