LWC Volleyball advances to MCS Championship match

Blue Raiders swept Cumberlands in Sat 15 Nov 2014 morning action
The Blue Raiders play in the MSC Volleyball Tournament Championship at 5pmCT/6pmET, THIS EVENING, Sat 15 Nov 2014, at Powell Athletic Center, 203 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Their opponent will be the winner of today's match between third-seeded St. Catharine (KY) and second-seeded Georgetown (KY)

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson volleyball team swept (25-15, 25-15, 25-23) fifth-seeded Cumberlands (KY) in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Powell Athletic Center.

On the way to a berth in the MSC Tournament Championship, the Blue Raiders (32-2) hit .313 overall. In comparison, the Patriots (22-14) finished with a .152 hitting percentage.



To begin the action, Lindsey Wilson trailed by a 9-3 margin before tying up the first set, 11-11, on an attack error by Cumberlands. From that point forward, the Blue Raiders captured 14-of-18 points to emerge victorious, 25-15.

In set two, Lindsey Wilson had a hitting percentage of .500 with 17 kills against a pair of errors, winning the set, 25-15.

During the third and final set, the Patriots led as late as 23-22 after a kill by Morgan Schlatter. The Blue Raiders, however, scored the final three points to secure a 25-23 victory. Following back-to-back kills by Sarah Shilling and Nadelina Nesheva, respectively, Cumberlands dropped the match's final point on a ball-handling error.

For Lindsey Wilson, Yeniffer Ramirez ended with a match-best 14 kills, while Nesheva had 11 kills with five digs. Shilling totaled nine kills, and Makenzie Montano had a match-high 38 assists to go along with seven digs. Caitlyn Tino led all players with 21 digs.

For the Patriots, Jennifer Philpot had team-bests with eight kills and 11 digs, and Megan Ganser and Stacey Sebald finished with seven kills apiece. Samantha Stuckwisch had 24 assists, and Schlatter totaled six kills and six digs.
