CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Cumberland (TN) by a 5-1 margin to win the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday evening, 14 November 2014 at Campbellsville University's Ron Finley Stadium.

With the victory, the Blue Raiders (13-3-3) receive the automatic bid into the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. It is the 13th MSC title in program history and 12th in the last 13 years.

Cumberland (15-3-1) must now wait and see if they receive an at-large bid into the national tournament.

After the first 30 minutes went by scoreless, the Blue Raiders broke the tie in the 32nd minute.

Anna Vig got the ball deep in the 18-yard box. She dribbled back towards the center and was tripped by a pair of Bulldog defenders, resulting in a penalty kick for the Blue Raiders.

Ayaki Shinada stepped to the spot and delivered a ball into the lower-left corner of the net, barely beating diving Cumberland goalkeeper Lindsay Kitson for the 1-0 Blue Raider lead.

Shauna Gilpin found the equalizer minutes later for the Bulldogs after receiving the ball on the right flank and firing across the goal into the left side of the net to bring the match level at 1-1.

Lindsey Wilson would go back up another goal in the 38th minute.

Elizabet Madjarac fired a shot that hit the crossbar and rebounded in the air to Vig, who headed the ball over Kitson in goal for the 2-1 Blue Raider lead.

Lindsey Wilson outshot the Bulldogs 6-3 with a 3-2 shot on goal advantage in the opening half.

The second half saw the Blue Raiders maintain possession early, eventually adding another goal to increase their lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute. A foul by Cumberland gave Lindsey Wilson a free kick from 20 yards out in the middle of the field. Bettina Brulhart placed the ball and sent a kick up and over the defensive wall, bending it down into the lower left-corner of the net before Kitson could get there for the score. Lindsey Wilson tacked on another goal in the 81st minute after Vig was again fouled inside of the box.

Carola Schneider stepped to the spot and powered a top shelf shot into the net for the 4-1 lead.

Lindsey Wilson added their final goal of the day in the 84th minute when Shinada dribbled around the right side of the six yard box before slipping a shot near post past the keeper for the 5-1 lead.

The Blue Raiders outshot Cumberland by a 12-4 margin, including a 7-2 shot on goal mark for the game.

Johanna Henriksson made one save in goal while Kitson recorded two saves for the Bulldogs.

The Blue Raiders will know their opening round tournament pairing when they are released by the NAIA on November 17, 2014 at 1pmCT.
