Linda Waggener: I stand by my No vote on Payroll Tax

By Linda Waggener

To the writer who asked about my "No" vote on the Payroll Tax: Thank you for your letter to Columbiamagazine.com.

I am against the payroll tax as it stands.

Even as I saw momentum build until the final motion was made, I hoped there could be some adjustment because this is done without taking care of a basic systemic issue - living within the existing budget, which every family knows is the way real life works.

I voted "No" on the tax, even knowing it could go against me in this election. I stand by my vote. As the record of past meeting discussions show, however, I said Columbia's intelligent, involved citizenry understands there must be some taxes, and I do favor rebalancing sources of income.
