More voters than ever registered in Kentucky 3,147,157 registered voters eligible statewide the 4 Nov 2014 general election nears Click on headline for complete information By Lynn Sowards Zellen and Bradford Queen News from Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes office More than 3.1 million Kentuckians will appear on the voter rolls for the November 4 General Election, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced today. The total number of registered voters - 3,147,157 - constitutes a new record, beating the 3,105,349 registered for the Primary Election held in May. The difference is an increase of 1.4%, or 41,800 voters, over five months. "I am excited to see that more and more Kentuckians are registering to vote, and I hope these newly registered voters will exercise their right and responsibility to vote in the General Election," said Grimes, Kentucky's chief election official. Each of the political parties has seen an increase in registered voters since the May 20, 2014, Primary Election. Approximately 53% of registered voters are women and 47% are men, which is consistent with the May Primary Election. Democrats now make up 53.46% of Kentucky voters, while 38.73% are Republicans. 7.80% of voters are identified as "Other." "As Kentucky's chief advocate for civic engagement, I hope all registered voters will head to the polls and vote on Election Day," said Grimes. "There are various methods for registered Kentuckians to vote, including going to the polls on November 4, voting in county clerks' offices before Election Day, or casting a mail-in absentee ballot, so I urge all Kentuckians to know their options and make their voices heard." Voters may access the Voter Information Center (VIC) on the State Board of Elections' website to confirm their voter registration status, view sample ballots, and locate their polling place. For complete registration statistics, additional election information, or to access the VIC, visit elect.ky.gov. This story was posted on 2014-10-23 07:07:21
