Columbia's Chris Bennett new instructor for workforce solutions

Somerset Community College Workforce solutions offering new continuing education course for electrical contractors

Somerset, KY (September 25, 2014) - Chris Bennett, a new instructor for Somerset Community College's (SCC) Workforce Solutions department, is teaching a new continuing education course called Contractor Business Management.



This course offers an introduction to the various facets of establishing, operating and owning an electrical contracting business. Topics covered include the following:
  • Legal forms of business organizations
  • Financial and accounting issues
  • Risk management and insurance
  • Marketing, production, and human resource requirements
  • OSHA Safety Regulations for skilled trades like electrical, plumbing, and HVAC
  • Retirement planning
  • Workman's compensation issues, and
  • Quality management techniques
Bennett is a master electrician who has been trained in leadership and business management. He has completed over 2000 electrical construction projects. He was professionally trained in managing general electrician teams and has experience in sales, human resources and payroll accounting, as well as computer systems (MAC and PC) and computer network installation. As a state certified commercial electrical inspector, Bennett acquired a vast knowledge of the National Electrical Code and OSHA safety requirements.

Somerset Community College is an approved provider for the State of Kentucky Department of Housing, Building, and Construction for mandated continuing education for licensed electricians, electrical contractors, HVAC and plumbers.

The SCC Workforce Solutions department also offers opportunities to prepare individuals interested in these occupations courses to help better prepare them for the field.

The next scheduled offering for this continuing education class is October 4 in London, KY, or November 1, 2014, in Somerset, KY. from 8aam-3pmCT/9am-4pmET at both locations.

Visit the Somerset Community College website at www.somerset.kctcs.edu, click "Workforce Solutions" in the blue bar at the top and click on the "Non-Credit Courses" icon, then select the courses in which you are enrolling. All programs are administered through the SCC Workforce Solutions Department.
