Jon Halsey on - How road funds should be allocated

' . . . gotcha politics are being played out from the lowest to the highest levels of Government throughout the Country. . . ALL of the actors in this latest "drama" let their personalities get in the way of coming together and agreeing on a future direction or goal. I see no leadership on either side.' - JON HALSEY Click on headline for complete commentary
Comments below based on Mr. Halsey's analysis of Adair County Magisterial District Ranking by miles of Road. He requested that CJE Ann Melton's requested roads also be included in the article, and that has been done. One road both sides agreed on was Bennett Ridge Road, in District 5, which was rated an "8" the second worst road rated by Kentucky Highway Department Inspector "Hoss" Hoskins. - ED WAGGENER

Personal commentary

A proposal put forth by the former County Executive and one resurrected by the current County Executive early in her administration divided funds strictly by mileage. I don't believe either proposal survived. Dividing the funds solely by mileage seems to be wrongheaded. Here's how I think it should be done:

Prioritize based on safety, need and activity. No major issues in a district and funds are dear, no funds to that district.

If the smallest District has more serious needs than any other, allocate the necessary funds to correct the problems.
What really concerns me is what one of the great white maned Democratic lions of the Senate, "Tip" O'Neil famously said: "All Politics are local." Given the childish actions on display lately (both parties) on the local level, it's no wonder our once great Country is in the shape it's in.

These "gotcha" politics are being played out from the lowest to the highest levels of Government throughout the Country.

It seems to me that "personalities" is one the primary problems. ALL of the actors in this latest "drama" let their personalities get in the way of coming together and agreeing on a future direction or goal. I see no leadership on either side.
