Vonnie Kolbenschlag - Dr. Arnold made wise suggestion: Merger

ON THE PAYROLL TAX
Vonnie Kolbenschlag feels the tax is unfair. Also recommends reducing City Council from six at large members to three from districts

Personal commentary

There have been very interesting comments regarding the payroll tax and I am very happy to see so many persons giving views - thanks to CM's easy access as well as people being involved. I do feel the tax is unfair. I do not understand how it will benefit grandchildren as a reason given by a council member. Can that be clarified, please.

Many city/county governments are merging. I think that was a wise suggestion by Dr. Arnold. I'm sure that requires a lot of paper work as well as a long period of time. As a start though I\'m wondering, "Do we now really need SIX council members - at large - without an obligation for a district, such as magistrates have.

Maybe we could lay the groundwork for a merger by reducing the number of council members - saving insurance premium expense and any other benefit funded by tax money. Lately the city council meetings have lasted longer than usual, but many times I've read, thanks to good reporting on Columbia Magazine, that the adjournment came less than an hour after the meeting was called to order. So, I'm thinking usually there was not much done. OK elections coming up and easy to decide which three candidates get the most votes and thus be members of the next city council.
