Please join the vigil if you can; but pray, wherever you are

There will be a community wide prayer vigil at the Columbia-Adair County Fire Station 200 Merchant Street, Columbia, KY, tonight, Thursday, August 21, at 7pmCT for the injured Campbellsville firefighters. Overflow parking in Adair Judicial Center. - Donald Hare

Please stop whatever you are doing and pray for firefighter Anthony "Tony" Grider this evening - pray until we hear that his critical injuries are improving at U of L hospital. Tony, whose injuries are now known to have been the worst received in today's accident in Campbellsville, was one of the most enthusiastic and dedicated young councilmen I've been honored to serve with. That's how I came to know his caring nature. His EMS and firefighter families in Adair and Taylor Counties have served with him and watched him in action over a 16-year career.

My heart dropped when Mayor Tony Young's voice broke after the press conference as he talked about how badly Tony was injured when thousands of volts of electricity hit his body. Details of what happened to cause the accident are being revealed and the investigation will continue, but what we know for now is that Tony needs us lifting up his name, calling for his healing.

For those who may not have had the pleasure of knowing him, here's a picture of him in the foreground, as a young, very enthusiastic Columbia City Councilman. He continues to serve the community in many ways. Tonight, he's in the University of Louisville Medical Center, in urgent need of prayers. A prayer vigil will be held at the Columbia/Adair County Fire Department, 200 Merchant Street, Columbia, KY, tonight at 7pmCT for Capt. Prayers for Tony, for all firefighters

2014-08-22 - 200 Merchant Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Crowds lingered after a moving prayer vigil for the firefighters injured yesterday in Campbellsville. The scene above after the vigil at the Adair County Fire Department Building on Merchant Street in Columbia. The service was initially planned for the lounge area, but was moved to the larger bay area, where pancake breakfasts are usually held. Ministers and speakers from Adair County's three fire departments - Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department, Columbia/Adair Fire Department, and Knifley Fire Department - and the Adair County EMS gave voice, with prayers for all four of the injured firefighters and brothers and sisters in first response, but especially for Tony, who works in Campbellsville, but lives, volunteers, trains, and is so much a part of Columbia/Adair County. - Linda Waggener
