Letter: Many walkable and safe downtowns

Walkable Cities: Rockville, MD is example of sensible mixed use projects

Mary Keltner writes:
There are many communities, large and small, in this country that have planned their downtown areas to be walkable and safe. Rockville MD has a public square of mixed use projects and is very sensible. The public library is right on the square, numerous restaurants surround it, and there are apartments both on the square and in the area. There are several farmers market days every week, concerts and family movie nights in warm weather. It is a wonderful place to meet friends, shop, and live. You can go to the library, shop for fresh vegetables and many other items. Parking is available in surrounding lots, so the square is open for people to go and businesses to thrive. - Mary Keltner
