ACHS Class of 2014 Senior Awards It was a huge night of Celebration for a high achieving class. Awards recipients in complete article lists: Valedictorian, Salutorian, Top 10%, DAR, US Army, US Corps of Engineers, Principal's Challenge, Governors Scholars, Top ACT, College & Career Ready, Career Ready, College Ready, and Technology Literacy. For the College Ready, over $3 Million Dollars in Scholarships were awarded. 2014 Graduates/Bios & Photos By Shamarie Claiborne Last night during the annual Senior Awards ceremony held at the Adair County High School there was in excess of 3 million dollars of scholarships presented to the 2014 graduating class. While some of the scholarships were one time funds and others renewable for up to four years of study, they were all greatly appreciated. Principal Troy Young was the Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening. A record number of seniors were recognized for a wide array of accomplishments not only scholarship recipients. Here is a quick peek at the winners. 2014 Awards DAR Good Citizen Award Sue Stivers presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to Emily Peck. US Army Award of Scholarship SSG. Kyle Chandler presented the U.S. Army Award of Scholar to Natalie Bertram and the U.S. Army Award of Athlete to Trenton Watson. He also awarded Jesse Anderson a Tuition Assistance Award. Top 10% of the 2014 Graduating Class The Top 10% of the 2014 Graduating Class were Leane Blackwelder, Tyler Bennett, Natalie Bertram, Sydney Bright, Kyle Castaneda, Meagan Coomer, Kate Durham, Matthew Fudge, Toby Green, Emily Janes, Elizabeth McGaha, Madelyn Murrell, Emily Peck, Kelsey Pyles, Ashley SImpson, James Smith, Rachel Stephens, Trenton Watson, and Caitlan Willis. US Marine Corps Awards Chris Lyons presented the U.S. Marine Corps Award for Distinguished Athlete to Emily Peck and Matthew Fudge, the U.S. Marine Corps Award for Scholastic Excellence to Leane Blackwelder and Kyle Castaneda, and the Semper Fidelis Music Award to Sydney Bright and Joseph McDowell. Principal's Challenge Awards Principal's Challenge Awards were presented to Sarah Ferguson and Trenton Watson. Governor's Scholars 2014 Governor's Scholars were Natalie Bertram, Leane Blackwelder, Kyle Castaneda, Madelyn Murrell, and Emily Peck. Highest ACT Awards Highest ACT Award winners included Leane Blackwelder in English, Emily Peck in Math, Leane Blackwelder - Madelyn Murrell - Ashton Nixon and Kelsey Pyles in Reading, Kyle Castaneda in Science, Madelyn Murrell and Emily Peck for Composite.
