Breeding Fish Fry draws 300; 18 candidates speak

By Ed Waggener

The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Departments Fish Fry/Chicken Barbecue & Auction with an old fashioned Stump Speaking, Saturday evening, May 3, 2014, drew a huge crowd numbering some 300 or more, according to BAVFD Training Officer Brandon Harvey - buoyed by perfect spring weather, a plethora of candidates this spring, and some of the best food in Adair County.

Over the years, the event has become the area's most important campaign forum for each election.

18 Candidates who spoke in alphabetical order

For approximately one hour, eighteen candidates took turns at the mike. Turns at the podium were on a pay-to-say plan; not all the candidates present spoke, and those that did speak joined in the personal campaigning which followed, along with many candidates who were there to meet and greet among the crowd, to simply campaign eye-to-eye, in private huddles. Those who spoke were:

  • Kentucky Senate, 16th District (Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties) - Sara Beth Gregory* (R) and Max Wise (R)
  • Court of Appeals 3rd District - Debra Hembree Lambert of Mt Herman, KY (Non-Partisan)
  • Adair County Judge Executive - Ann Melton* (R) , Joe Rogers (D), and Michael Stephens (D),
  • Adair County Sheriff - Josh Brockman (R), Justin Claywell (R), Chris Janes (R), Harrison Moss* (D)
  • Adair County Court Clerk - Lisa Greer (R), Mark Harris (R) , Dale McCloud (R), Brenda Mann (R), Mike Sneed (R)
  • Adair County Jailer - Eric Antle (R), Joey White (R)
  • Adair County Magistrate District 6 - Mike Mitchum (R)
*Incumbent

The event is so important that it drew all candidates for Adair County Judge Executive, all for Adair County Sheriff, all Republican Candidates for County Court Clerk, and all- both - candidates for the District 16 Senate seat.

Brandon Harvey and Lorne Holler

2014-05-04 - 290 Fire Station Lane, Breeding KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Breeding Area Fire Department Training Officer Brandon Harvey and Firefighter Lorne Green said that the department was well pleased with the 300 who attended the Fish Fry. This event went well; parking was especially easy, with fire apparatus - and the BAVFD has as much as many county seat fire departments - wasn't display in the parking area, making room for many more spaces - though the fire trucks when displayed, are always a big bonus.
